6 Week Hand Building | Beginner
Monday Evening 6 Week
19th May-23th June, 6.30-8.30/9.00PM
30th June-4th Aug, 6.30-8.30/9.00PM
Studio 4, Lockside Studio, 5 Skippers Yard, E3 2RF
Course Overview
This course is designed especially for beginners, offering a gentle introduction to hand-building techniques. You’ll be guided through essential methods like pinch pots, coil building, slab work, and glazing. We’ve also included a special session on Eastern techniques, where you’ll use clay knives or cutting wire to create functional pieces. You’ll have the chance to try out a variety of techniques, and we encourage everyone to explore their own preferences. By the end of the course, you'll feel confident enough to start creating independently.
Each class is limited to 6 participants, keeping a smaller group of students, and the teacher can provide more one-on-one guidance. Over the six weeks, you’ll typically make between 6-8 ceramic pieces. Our studio offers a lovely range of glazes for you to experiment with. If you're interested in learning ceramic painting, we can arrange additional time for you to explore that too.
Your finished pieces will be ready for collection about 3 weeks after the course ends, but sometimes it may take a little longer. We’ll email you when your work is ready. Please collect your pieces within 6 weeks of receiving the email, as we unfortunately can’t store them for longer. If you are not collected within that time, we’ll give them to charity shops due to limited shelf space.
For those who have completed this beginner course and are interested in progressing, we also offer intermediate hand building courses—check our website for details. Alternatively, if you’d like to join our studio as a member, you can find more information online.
